M@Dkid's Gazette Vol. 9 - Halloween 2020
Updated: Jun 26, 2022
Ohhh…...Ohh….It is mwah, Casper the friendly ghost . Maddie wanted me to tell you, dear readers that this week's topic is HALLOWEEN!!! Halloween is a special holiday on October 31. It is special because you get FREE CANDY!!! JK. Halloween is a day that the Samhain created. The Samhain is Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year. This “festival” is supposed to start on November 1st but on October 31 is when the sunsets. Every year on Halloween night, kids go trick-or-treating with their parents. We collect free candy from parents that don’t go trick-or-treating… mwahahahaha… mwahahaha!
October 31st is also called Allhalloween. You might be thinking, “ what is Allhalloween???” Well, that is All hallows’ eve. The Western Christians used this day as a feast. They threw a big feast because it was the last day of fall and then we would be entering the winter. Why not kick off the last day with a big celebration? It was also a day to celebrate the dead. It is almost like the day of the dead except not called that. The spirits come out to hang around on this day.
Why do we go trick or treating on ‘Halloween’?
The tradition of trick or treating started in the 16th century ! some cultures give candy and some give money!!! This tradition started in Scotland and Ireland. The trick is a mischievous trick in the home owner’s property. But the treat is a food often swapped with something else. But if you ever go to Ireland and trick or treat there, you would need to say, “Help the Halloween Party please!” but in Canada, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Australia, Puerto Rico, and northwestern and central Mexico, sometimes you would hear kids say ¿Me da mi calaverita?” Which means Can you give me my little skull? On halloween, you probably see hundreds of children on the streets, door to door, and on the road with costumes and bags of candy. But us children wear costumes. We wear these silly, scratchy, sometimes fluffy costumes to scare the bad souls away. This tradition was incorporated with the Samhain. But before this, people wore normal clothes.
As you can see, Halloween is a great holiday that is celebrated differently by different cultures. Halloween is a great holiday for scaring your friends. So Maddi- no, Casper advises you to scare a person after this. If you don’t, I’m watching you… Oh! But before that, you should read Annie's newsletter. Then, you should scare a frie- Oh no wait!! After Aunnie’s newsletter, you should read Drake’s. Yes. that is good.

So why am I writing about Monalisa? It is because there are people that dress up as art for Halloween, there are so many art costumes but people chose Monalisa as the most popular. The Monalisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. He died a long time ago though. He was the most famous artist in 1452 – 1519.
About the artist
The artist is Leonardo Da Vinci. His nickname is Da Vinci, Leonardo, and Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci ( that is his real name). Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452, he died May 2, 1519. Leonardo did not have a real last name. He has a painting skill that when he draws the art is very realistic. Leonardo Da Vinci is not his real name because at the end, it there was ser Piero da Vinci. Leonardo is 5’9 and he likes animals. Leonardo means strong as a lion. Leonardo is much more than just an artist; he is a scientist. Leonardo got famous because of his art, the Monalisa and the art of the last supper.
About the art
The art of Monalisa is very realistic and I can see the skull on her head. The part that I see that is realistic is her clothes. It makes me think that it is a 3D painting. The colors are green, black, brown, and tan, I feel that Leonardo put green because he was excited he might have put black because was scared the day that he put the black on her. The Mona Lisa is 2’6'' in length and 1’9'' in width, which is super small!
Why I think Leonardo made the Mona Lisa
This is why I think Leonardo made this painting, he wanted to have a portrait of his wife ( lisa) because Leonardo has a portrait so he might have wanted his wife to have one too. Leonardo’s wife's name is Lisa not MonaLisa.
Rate the art
I like the art of Monalisa. I give this art a 10-star rating. This art makes me feel like I focus more on drawing because I feel that if Leonardo can make an art that looks 3D then so can I. Another reason why I like the art is because artists don’t normally paint so realistic like Leonardo. This is one of the most famous paintings in the world! This art reminds me of when I am at the park and I’m taking pictures. It makes me feel like that because in the background there are trees, hills, and mountains. MonaLisa is smiling so I think that she is taking a picture.

About the review
I will give this animal 5 stars because it’s fast and I like fast animals like bats. Bats live in groups. I like animals that live in groups because I feel safer. But I don’t live SCARY animals Like bats. Besides that, I really like bats. I like fling mammals, because I like pterosaurs.
