When Martin Luther King was alive, he led and was not afraid to get in trouble. When he passed away, people fell into King’s shadow and stuck up for what they thought was right. Some other people who stuck up for their rights are:

  • Rosa Parks

  • Malcolm X

  • Nelson Mandela

Martin Luther King had successfully fulfilled his dream. He has gotten rid of segregation.

Introduction

“I have a dream, that one day…..” Martin Luther King Jr. said this famous speech on August 28, 1963. He was one of the most famous activists in the world. Sadly, he was assassinated in 1968. His dream was to end American segregation. It is unfortunate that Martin Luther King never saw his dream come to life. This is a holiday because of the freedom fighting, justice hero, man.

Early Life

Mr. King grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. His family was middle class. His mother was a former school teacher and his father was a pastor. Martin Luther King grew up in the South where all the segregation was happening. So he lived amongst segregation until he was in college. He lived in a neighborhood known by the name of Sweet Auburn. Here lied some of the most prominent and prosperous African Americans.

Martin Luther King went to Boston University in the North and Morehouse College in his hometown. When I attended a college in the North, there was no segregation. Martin was being treated like how anyone should no matter their race or color of their skin. This is where Martin found his idea. He didn’t think that this was fair. The north didn't think that was fair, too. So that’s why they had no segregation. The North and the South both had different beliefs, which lead to the Civil War. But that’s for another time.

Inspiration

Martin studied Gandhi and how he lead peaceful protests, hunger strikes, and boycotts. Martin was inspired by the ways of Gandhi and created his own peaceful protests. Martin Luther King was known for many protests. But the one that he was most famous for was the “March on Washington”.

March on Washington

The March On Washington was the event before Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream speech.” It was a fight for jobs and black people’s freedom. He brought along nearly 250,000 people on this march. Martin Luther King wanted to show the world all the inequalities of being African American. A lot of people attended to show the world that they are worthy and they were put on this planet with equal rights.

MLK’s Assassination

In 1968, on April 4th at the Lorraine Motel, he was assassinated. James Earl Ray was the murderer. James Earl Ray stood in the bathtub of a bathroom with a rifle. He carefully tried to aim at Martin Luther King. He pulled the trigger and killed. He immediately escaped and covered 5 countries in a time span of 2 months. In Mat 1968, he was found carrying a Canadian passport under a false identity and was arrested in a London Airport. He was fined 99 years of prison! That’s a long time.

I have a dream speech

Martin Luther King’s I have a dream speech was EXTREMELY powerful. He changed a lot of people’s lives from this speech. He says, “... That one day all the little black girls and little black boys will be brothers and sisters with all the little white boys and all the little white girls.” His dream has come true in America. One year later, Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his dynamic leadership.

I think that this speech really empowers me because when America follows Martin Luther King’s speech, we will live up to the quote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.”

Aunnie’s art review

Introduction

Martin Luther King Jr entered college at the age of 15. He was a freedom fighter, a freedom fighter is someone who fights for freedom. He wanted justice between Whites and blacks. Another reason why is because he fought for mankind and he protested peacefully with the whites. Martin Luther King Jr. died when he was 39 years old, but if he were still alive then he would be 91, but he will be turning 92 this Monday.

About the art

The artist is unknown. This photo was found from the Brettmann Archive. The founder of the Brettmann archive is Otto Brettmann, he is a German curator. A curator is a keeper of cultural heritage. This is a black and white photo because it was taken when color pictures were not available. In this picture Martin Luther King Jr. is waving at the crowd of people, he dressed properly because he was about to have an important speech. I think that Martin Luther King Jr is happy because he just had his great speech or that he was about to have his speech. This picture was made after Martin Luther King Jr. made his “I have a dream” speech which was about 56 years ago. The freedom fighter, Martin Luther King Jr. had his “I have a dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial. He was in front of 250,00 people, his words were engraved on the monument where he spoke. I think it is there because the speech was very powerful.

Rate the art

African Bush Elephant

Introduction

Hi everyone! In this week's newsletter, I’m going to write about elephants. Why am I writing about elephants? oh, that is because elephants are brave like Martin Luther king. Martin Luther King is brave. He is brave because he wasn’t afraid of going to jail.

Fact

In Africa, the elephant symbolizes strength and power. It is praised for its size, its energy it can take, its long life, South African, uses elephant tusks in their coat of arms to represent wisdom, strength, moderation, and eternity. African elephants are part of the big five. The big five is not the shop but the big 5 animals. In 1990 a person created Big-game hunters, it started hunting dinosaurs then animals. The 1st game was created in 1909, the 2nd game was created in 1912. The 3d game was in 1990. They were 75 hunters and 55 slayers. Now, I am going to tell you why it is called big 5, the most difficult animals in the game are:

  1. Lion

  2. Cape buffalo

  3. African bush elephant

  4. African leopard

  5. Rhino

Species

Do you know about patriarchy and matriarchy? Well, patriarchy is a group (pack) that is led by a male. This is like reindeer and gorillas. Matriarchy is led by females. Just like lions and Gibbins. Gibbins are led by females and males. African bush elephants are matriarchs. African bush elephant are vulnerable. Their status of endangerment is vulnerable. Do you know that some elephants are endangered to the point some of their tusk stop growing. In fact, did you know both female and male african elephants tusk grow

My Review

I will give this animal 10 stars because this animal is strong and brave
